Movin' On Up

Posted Thursday, Oct 13th, 2011 at 6:03pm

The new house is coming along.

Starting to take form:

up1

The center ridge beam gets slowly inched up toward the roof by one carpenter working all alone on a Saturday! See it sticking out the top front bank of windows in the photo below? How did he do it? It weighs about 700 lbs!

up2

Here it is up at the top of the house but not yet dropped into place:

up3

Tom Champion, champion builder, does some shaving of the ridge beam so it can fit into the brackets:

Here it is, securely in place:

up5

We had to move this poor Red Bud tree 6 ft. so it would not be in the way of the new driveway.

up6

The floor of the "storage" loft is nailed into place:

Once the ridge beam is in place, the rafters are next:

Check out the roof for the porch:

The stairs to the front door might need a little work:

Coming along. Inside:

wow - how exciting! It already looks very nice. It's all about enclosing space, isn't it?
