Today I completed a full Sprint Triathlon which was my goal to complete before turning fifty. It was a 1/2 mile swim, a 12 mile bike ride, and a 3.2 mile run. The swim was delicious and easy. I surprised myself by doing the whole thing with the crawl stroke. I've never done that much crawl before. The biking was pretty easy but I was disconcerted by how many women passed me (it was an all-women's event). Last year I did the shorter version swimming only 1/4 mile.
Everyone gets their age written in indelible ink on their right calf.
Here is my stuff layed out for when I run out of the water and jump on my bike.
Last year I was humbled when I was passed by a woman with "68" written on her calf and then again by Ms. "72." Well they passed me again this year at 69 and 73. Here is a picture with "73" after the finish line.
As I was saying the biking was very doable as long as I didn't get too insecure about being passed. But the running was humbling. I felt so stiff after the biking. But I made it. And never walked one step - only ran.
I have been working up to this literally for 25 years. I'm so proud even if the tough gals around me humbled me.

You rock, Sara! Hey, when you're 73, you're gonna be one of those tough gals! You're already pretty darn resilient now! You go, gal!
