R.I.J. Robert Rauschenberg

Annie, Sue, Bernie, Chris and Janet and I had the honor to attend Bob's Memorial at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC on November 3rd, 2008. It was a spectacular event with the museum open at night in an arms-open reception for Bob. Everything was grand, formal, austere, important, and beautiful. Below is Janet's great photo:

Janet's grand photo

There were big screens up on the second floor balcony that you could see from the first floor. And on those screens were handsome photo after photo of the also handsome Bob. Sometimes too pictures of Sue or Chris. Here is a lovely picture that Janet took of Chris and Sue:

The whole event seemed well suited to Bob's charisma, talent and scale. Two lines of wait-people lined our way through the lobby. Then we were treated to wonderful speeches by people who loved Bob, starting with his sister and my brother and then going on to friends and artists. Guess what? You can see the whole thing yourself by clicking here. That's why I say, Rest In Joy Robert Rauschenberg.

it must have been quite an event, although I think of RR being more of a MOMA kind of guy than a MMA man. Lovely picture of mother and son. What a special kind of mutual pride there is there.
